"Road Transport in Poland 2023" is a new report that was developed by SpotData in cooperation with the employers' association Transport and Logistics Poland. It is a comprehensive study that shows the state of development of the road transport industry in Poland and the key challenges it faces.

There is no doubt that the road transport industry plays a key role in Poland's economic development. Over the past several years, employment in this industry has grown by 230,000 people, outpacing the growth of employment in the IT sector (+207,000). Poland is one of the few large countries in the European Union where transportation has such a significant impact on the economy.

For every euro of Polish GDP, converted at 2015 constant prices, there is as much as 0.75 ton-kilometer of freight work, which is three times the average for EU countries. However, the road transport industry also faces significant challenges.

The survey points to several important trends and challenges in the road transport industry that entrepreneurs are observing. At the same time, it suggests that changes in the sector are occurring gradually, with the biggest challenges being macroeconomic risks, which are becoming increasingly important to companies.

Thus, the TLP and Spotdata survey indicates that the main challenges for transportation companies are high wages, inflation and fluctuating energy prices. By comparison, in the previous 2021 survey, the biggest challenge was a shortage of workers.

The road transportation industry also faces significant energy transition challenges in the next few years. Currently, few companies are planning to invest in a fleet of alternative-fuel vehicles. According to TLP and Spotdata research, 33% of companies plan to invest in biodiesel-powered vehicles, and slightly fewer companies plan to invest in electric or gas vehicles. Energy transformation will therefore be one of the key challenges for the transportation industry in the near future.
