Car fleet in Poland

Presented below you can find information on changes in Polish fleet of motor vehicles. We can observe recovery on the market of new and second-hand cars. But we have to bear in mind, that comparing the first four months of 2021 with the same period of 2020, we can see the effect of the so called low base. Pandemic and restrictions that were in force at the beginning of 2020 had strong influence on import and sale of motor vehicles. Today, the situation is slowly coming back to normal, but we can notice strong increases when analysing the data year on year. Details to be found below.
Registrations of new cars - as at April 2021.
Registrations 2020: April: +163.4%; January – April: +31.8%
In April 2021, the number of registrations of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles went up dramatically (+163.4%; +29,194 pcs.). The main cause of this situation is the low base from the previous year, when pandemic lockdown was imposed and sales rapidly plummeted.

Import of used cars – as at April 2021.
Import 2020: April: + 152.4%; January – April: + 24.4%
The import of second-hand cars went up equally impressive. Again, resulting from the low base from 2020, when pandemic paralysed the industry.
As IBRM Samar published in its report, in April 2021 there were 81,413 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles imported to and registered in Poland, with GVM up to 3.5 tons, an increase by impressive 152.4%. Within the 4 months of current year, the number of registrations of imported cars amounted to 308,947 pieces, an increase by 24.4% compared to the same period of 2020.
