Automotive Spare Parts Industry Barometer - summary of the first quarter 2021

The Association of Distributors and Manufacturers of Automotive Spare Parts, together with Santander Bank Polska and MotoFocus.pl prepared a report on "Industry, trade and services in the automotive industry" summarizing the situation of the automotive industry in the first quarter of 2021
Spare parts distribution did not slow down in the pandemic
At the beginning of pandemic, it seemed that large increase of transport cost, problems with continuity of deliveries resulting from closing borders of countries and lack of economic stability in Europe, and also the change of character of work for many employees – moving to remote work – are factors, that would influence the results of distributors. Data summarizing the year 2020 in the latest SDCM barometer shows that despite all those difficulties on the market, distributors quickly adapted to the new situation and gained positive results in 2020. The first quarter 2021 also confirmed this, as 76 percent of respondents claimed to have recorded increase in revenue, compared to Q4 2020.

What is more, 82 percent of them claim that the whole year 2021 is to be finished with greater income, compared to the year before.

Domestic market of spare parts has been long supported by high demand for second-hand cars, which was not so much affected by the pandemic and crisis. According to CEP data, in 2020 the decrease in import of second-hand cars was lower than in registrations of new passenger cars. What is more, in March 2021, the import came back to the levels recorded back in 2019. It is an important source of demand for the spare parts industry , though it is worth noticing that it applies less to premium segment parts – said Martyna Dziubak, Motorization Sector Director and TSL, Santander Bank Polska.
It is also interesting that over a half of respondents can see their increases in revenues in 2021 in domestic sale.
